In addition to the normal New Year's celebration I have made some addition "fixes" to the site. Check out Kieron's Site to see the majority of the updates, where Phoenix and I finally got caught up from April of 2007. The pages now show everything up to the end of the year. We'll have a couple more pages shortly after his birthday on the 30th.
The rest of the changes are limited to cleaning up the layout and style for the main pages of the site, and tweaking some of the back end code to match the new format. I'm actually almost done with the update.
So, we go to WallyWorld for some shopping ... you know, the usual, milk, sodas, veggies for salad, etc. Well, when we got to the store I asked Kieron if he wanted to get into the seat on the shopping cart. He looked up and back at me, smiled his devilish little smile, and grabbed the cart with both hands. He then started to push the cart. Slowly at first, since we were on the carpet right at the entrance to the store, but push it he did.
"This isn't a big deal," thought I.
I wondered, "What harm could come of this?"
So I left him to his idea of fun, and proceeded to steer the cart while he pushed it. Once we got to the tile, and off the carpet, he got the thing easily up to normal adult walking speed. So, off we go to the other end of the store to start off with milk (have we mentioned he drinks more milk than most calves?).
No problems at all when I add the gallon of milk. Thats what? Eight pounds tops? And off we go, to the sodas. 12-pack of Coke ... still going strong. I even have to hold the cart back so I can put the 12-pack of Pepsi in, cause he wants to keep pushing it. A friend of ours was along, and she grabbed a 24-pack of Mt Dew and added it to the cart. Whats Kieron do? Continue pushing ...
So, providing steering for him, I let him continue pushing the cart around the store as we wander through getting everything we need. That takes about 30 minutes. During that time I heard a number of comments such as, "Awwww, isn't he cute", "Look at him", and even, "heheh! Nice work getting him helping so early!" Phoenix heard at least two people comment along the lines of, "Aww, poor kid." THEY obviously didn't understand this was his idea in the first place. At least one or two didn't even see him and wondered how I was keeping the cart moving.
So, by time we get everything, we had about 50 pounds of stuff, and what does Kieron do? Just dig in an use his legs to get going. He still kept it going at adult walking speed. He even got mad and threw a fit when I held the cart still so we could unload it at the cash-register.
I just wish I'd had a camera to have filmed it. OMG but it was funny at times.
So, Kieron is always trying to help me type when I am at the computer and holding him. He gets mad when I don't let him hit the buttons too ...
I've fixed that.
One old POS keyboard and one pair of wirecutters later, Kieron is much happier playing with his own keyboard. ;)
